Sankalp Prabhakar

Sankalp is a senior Machine Learning (ML) engineer at Diligent, specializing in natural language processing (NLP) with over 7+ years of experience. He has a track record of driving impactful ML solutions on the AWS platform.

Recent achievements include designing a ‘search and retrieval engine’ using pretrained large language models (LLMs) fine-tuned on company-specific data. He’s also leading a generative AI solution, employing Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), to enhance enterprise search efficiency. His expertise in ML operations (MLOps) is evident in his use of AWS services like SageMaker Projects and Pipelines, supported by AWS CDK infrastructure.

Furthermore, Sankalp’s contributions extend to shaping best practices in ML, incorporating lean methodologies and customer validation, exemplified by the implementation of the AI Canvas for business idea evaluation, leading to enhanced efficiency and innovation.

In his previous role as a Lead Machine Learning Scientist at the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii), he passionately empowered companies to leverage AI/ML in product development through advanced techniques in NLP, time-series analysis, and recommender systems. Additionally, he provided science mentorship and ML guidance to drive Amii’s partners to excel in advancing their AI/ML projects and capabilities.

Sankalp received his Master of Science (MSc thesis) in Computing Science with a specialization in ML under the supervision of Dr. Osmar R. Zaïane at the University of Alberta.
